Our Legacy

Enlignment, Inc., a transformational business leadership coaching, consulting and training company, was co-founded in 2004 through the marriage and business partnership of Miriam Hawley and Jeffrey McIntyre.

Enlignment was created with the vision and mission of collaborating with clients to significantly advance their leadership capacity and performance. Specializing in leadership development, systems thinking and organizational change, we consult with executives and their management teams and coach entrepreneurial individuals, couples and families to cultivate thriving partnerships and businesses based on resilient relationships, clear communication, integrity and accountability.

Partnership

Miriam and Jeffrey also co-authored You and Your Partner, Inc., Entrepreneurial Couples Succeeding in Business, Life and Love, published in 2012.  In this groundbreaking business book, fifty couples share their inspiring stories about integrating the demands of work, relationship and family. Their success stories continue to inspire couples in business and anyone tackling these core life issues.

Jeffrey passed away in October, 2017, after courageously meeting the challenge of Parkinson’s Disease for six years. In the early years of the disease, Jeffrey continued to practice as a marriage and family therapist as well as an executive leadership coach and consultant. When work was no longer possible, his activities as a meditation teacher and spiritual advisor took center stage. During this time, Jeffrey continued to teach The Heart of Recovery, a program he created to ground 12 Step recovery in Buddhist meditation practice.  Both of these paths were central to who Jeffrey was and to the contribution he made to helping people struggling with addiction. To the end of his life, he was both learning and teaching how to be present and loving in each and every moment. His wisdom and compassion are still alive through The Heart of Recovery, now taught in over 20 centers nationwide, and in the hearts of all the people he touched in the fullness of his life.

While different without Jeffrey’s physical presence, Enlignment is still grounded in the principles of alignment of values and action, and awakening to the possibilities for being that Miriam and Jeffrey intended when they first created the business in 2004.

Jeffrey McIntyre

Jeffrey McIntyre, Business Leadership Coach & Consultant

Jeffrey Robert McIntyre passed away in October 2017, after courageously meeting the challenge of Parkinson’s disease for six years. Jeffrey was the President of Enlignment®, Inc. He and his wife, Nancy Miriam Hawley, co-founded Enlignment, Inc. in 2004 to bring their expertise individually and in partnership to consult with executives and their management teams and coach entrepreneurial individuals, couples and families in business.

Jeffrey and Miriam co-authored a book entitled You and Your Partner, Inc., Entrepreneurial Couples Succeeding in Business, Life and Love, published in 2012, reviewed in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes and Bloomberg Businessweek.

Jeffrey was the creator of The Seven Intelligences of Leadership®, a comprehensive, integrative and systemic approach to visionary leadership, featured at the International Coaches Federation of New England 2008 Annual Conference.

Thirty years of training and practice in systems thinking and human development and behavior allowed Jeffrey to generate conversations that inspired leaders to move their organizations forward by aligning relationships with results.

Jeffrey was expert in working with health and medical professionals. “What supports leaders to be effective? What keeps people engaged in their work? How do you differentiate leadership initiatives from management activity? How do you include multi-cultural considerations in your teambuilding strategy? How do you measure success and sustainability?” These are just a few of the questions that inspired Jeffrey’s clients to significantly advance their leadership capacity and performance.

Jeffrey held a Bachelor’s degree in History from The College of Wooster, where he played football on scholarship and an instrumental role in starting the first men’s Lacrosse team in 1968. Jeffrey also held a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Antioch University Graduate School of Professional Psychology. He completed extensive post-graduate study in family systems therapy, a comprehensive platform for understanding social and business systems.

Jeffrey served on the Board of the Massachusetts Association of Marriage and Family Therapists from 1992 to 2002. As an officer, he led MAMFT’s five-year political campaign and spearheaded a strategic process to restructure the organization’s focus and operations. In his role as President, he was active in the President’s Council of the AAMFT, Inc., the national parent organization, and received MAMFT’s highest award for his contributions in 2004. He was an instructor and supervisor in the Harvard Medical School/Cambridge Health Alliance Family and Couples Therapy Training Program from 1992 to 2006.

In 2007 he worked closely with a team from the New England Chapter of the Family Firm Institute and the Northeastern University Center for Family Business to create the first annual Massachusetts Family Business awards, honoring the accomplishments of family businesses.

As an active member of the Society for Organizational Learning Coaches Community of Practice, in 2009 Jeffrey led an initiative to create a SoL coaches certification course in systems thinking in action. The pilot program was launched in 2010.

Jeffrey was certified as an executive coach in 2010 by the Newfield Coach Training Program led by Julio Olalla, one of the founders of ontological coaching and author of From Knowledge to Wisdom.

Jeffrey practiced meditation in a variety of Buddhist traditions for over 40 years. He was a meditation instructor in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition and taught meditation in a variety of business and professional settings. In 2006, he created The Heart of Recovery program, integrating Buddhist meditation with western Twelve Step traditions. His wisdom and compassion are a living presence in this program, now taught in over 20 centers nationwide.

A graduate of the Authentic Leadership certificate program at the Marpa School of Business, Naropa University, Jeffrey was both a participant and a dialogue leader for an international gathering of thought leaders at The Shambhala Institute’s Authentic Leadership Program in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

While Jeffrey’s worldly accomplishments are many, as his movement and speech became compromised, Jeffrey became a master practitioner of being in the present moment, and continued his work as a spiritual and meditation teacher. One had only to sit with him to learn the power of being with ourselves and each other without speaking. His whispered and then silent message to all who came to visit was this: the present moment is all any of us have, and each of us must find our own way to embrace, appreciate and do our best to create benefit with the time we have – for ourselves, our beloveds, our families, our communities, and our world. In that essential teaching his powerful presence remained to the very end.

Jeffrey’s parting gift in the last month of his life was to allow all who loved him and meant so much to him the opportunity to say goodbye, and to receive their gifts of love with grace and gratitude. While Jeffrey’s physical presence is gone, his curiosity, his humor, his dedication, his rigor, his achievements and his spirit live on in the hearts of everyone he touched in the fullness of his life.

Family was the foundation of Miriam and Jeffrey’s life together and the inspiration for their work. Jeffrey was the father of one child, the stepfather of two, and the grandfather of four.
